Auto Insurance - Keeping Your Teen Driver Out Of Trouble And Getting Better Rates

By Chimezirim Chinecherem Odimba

Statistics for teen drivers are far from impressive. They are known to have more crashes than all other age groups and many parents will prefer that they NOT drive. Most families succeed in holding them off for only so long. But you'd have to understand that peer pressure is really a very big issue at this age. Is there a way you can get lower rates for this high risk group and at the same time keep them safer. Following are tips that will help you...

Teenagers usually demand adult privileges but prefer kindergarten responsibilities. However, insist that they bear the responsibilities that come with the privilege or at least a part of it. Make them pay their auto insurance premium themselves or at least contribute a sizeable chunk.

It's my discovery that once young persons pay for something with their hard-earned cash, they end up being more careful with it. Give your teen driver this set of rules and they will be the safer if they abide by it...

1) Let them never drive in company of fellow teens or kids unless there is a responsible adult in the car.

2) Make sure your teen promises never to drive at night. For those whom this may not be an option, teach your teen what to do and how to drive at night.
Most accidents happen between 9.00pm and 2.00am.

3) If they drink then they must not drive. Err on the side of safety and insist that they do not drive after as little as a sip of alcohol.

4) Let it be ingrained in your teenager that they are not on a race track even when they are on the highway. Make sure they are grounded if they ever get a speed ticket.

5) Encourage your teen to tell you wherever they want to drive to and know in whose company it will be if any. And, please, be firm if you think they're better off with a cab or even if you think they should not go there.

I Know these things will really work where you already have a great relationship with your teen. While you're doing those or even if you find it difficult to implement in your case, here's how any teen can get lower auto insurance rates...
Get and compare quotes...

A quotes site could present quotes that have a difference of over $2,000 between the highest quote and the lowest. Each site will take you about 5 minutes or less to receive quotes. While you visit each site, ensure you input the same details. Doing otherwise isn't a smart move since the quotes you'll get this way won't be of any use to you. You'll then simply pick lowest insurance quote for you from the list of quotes returned.
